Mr. Huynh The Du (picture), Chairman of Vietnamese Youth and Students Association in UK, is sharing his experience and information about this campaign.

One mentor and one student

Could you plese let us know what are the subjects of this campaign?

This program is totally free in which one student will work directly with one mentor. This program is designed for 100 members who wish to go abroad for studying in 2015. Depending on thier capability, efforts and circumstances, some students may be offered scholaships or supports to study and take standard examinations such as TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GMAT or GRE.

Beside, this program also offer support, consultancy and soft skills through online and offline classes for approximate 200 young students who will be selected to the Group No. 1 (one student and one mentor) in the forthcoming years.

For those who was selected to study abroad, we will offer first add supports to help them get on well with new life soon and find accommodation, etc. During the time when they study there, the association may connect with them and organise internship campaign in Vietnam.

Currently there have been some studying aboard programs in Vietnam. Why does the program wish to encourage young Vietnamese students to study in other countries?

We think that studying aborad is the dream of many young students in Vietnam. For the current condition and circumstances of Vietnam, it is very importance for the development of the country when many Vietnamese go out to study and come back to their homeland. It is because most of people who have enough conditions to study abroad can ensure a good life for themselves and thier families and make great contributions to the society as well.

Additionally, when they go to other countries, they may make some comparisons and think about thier living places, their capabilities and the development of their countries compared with others, especially developing countries. Such different environments require each of them to improve their interactive skills to develop thier unlimited potentials.

Inspiring and motivating

So in your opinion, what is the key for the success of students who join this porgram?

We offer all information, skills and conditions for those who wish to study abroad and start their businesses. However, these are not the key for thier success. The future of each student is decided by himself. It is affected by his capability and non-stop efforts. Therefore, the speacial matter is that we will inspire and motivate these students. We think that if we are patient enough to stand on tiptoe everyday we will be taller and taller. But if we walk so fast, so long, which means that the target we set is so high, we may trip up on the step.   

In fact, just some students who joined the program have enough conditions to sutdy abroad. How about are the others?

The highest aim of this program is to support students to study abroad. However, if a student does not meet our requirements to go abroad, he still get a wide useful range of experience, career orientation from the alumnies who are working in different industries. This mean all students have change to get good knowledge from the program but no loss or failure. This is the reason why we just want to focus on the matter of inspiration and motivation to let our students understand the way to nurture and realise thier dreams.

All student join the program voluntarily. Should it be an advantage, and also a challange of the program?

Yes. The biggest problem is that time budget of the student is limited. However, we do believe in thier enthusiatic participation of all students, especially members of Vietnamese Youth and Students Association in UK and other organisations such as: Vietnamese-US Alumni club, E-Center for Professional Development, Global Shaper, Olympians, Ve Ke Chuyen, VEFFA, VietSeed, US Guide…

Beside the targets mentioned above, we decide that the program is also a change to connect international students, especially to form a cultural habit in studying abroad students to give something back to our community as mentioned in the spirit of the proram.
