Opening the meeting, Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, said:“I would like to say that today’s meeting is very important and vital to make new advances in higher education. In times of globalization, DTU is well aware of the advantages of brainpower. Over the years, the quality of education in Vietnam has improved. However, we need more detailed plans to broaden the knowledge of the younger generation and bring Vietnamese education up to international standards. I hope that this forum will help DTU plan and develop programs for Vietnamese students to gain the latest knowledge and integrate into the rest of the world.”

Appalachian State University in America initiated the Global Understandings course in 2012. The program has spread worldwide, thanks to the positive response of students from ASU and others. Students will be able to study together by video conferencing, under the guidance of international experts. The instructors will outline course content and students will research the necessary information on various foreign societies, their cultures and living environments. Instructors and students will exchange their knowledge and their experiences to broaden their global understanding and improve their special skills.
Professor Jesse Lutabingwa, Director of International Research and Development at Appalachian State University, said: “I have visited Danang many times now look upon it as my home. Today, I am delighted to join the 'Global Understandings' Forum at DTU. I would like to thank Ms. Le Nguyen Tue Hang, DTU Vice-Provost, and all of you who have come from the International the Burapha College in Thailand, the Beijing International Studies University in China, the Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology in Taiwan and DTU.
